Hi again,
Couple of things to pick someones brain about, im working through all the elec probs with my car and im starting to think about the sun roof. Now it does nothing when you hit the button, no noises nothing When i got the car the guy told me that the roof had opened half way one day on its own(or half closed i cant remember), so they had wound it shut and taken the fuse out. I have put the fuse back but no action from the roof. Could it be a relay problem or is there a standard elec failure from xm sunroofs. My other question is im fairly convinced my car is stuck in Hard mode as i feel no difference in switching the switch across, the ride is not as soft as i would expect. I know from reading on here that there are various parts to this problem, but my car has had 4 spheres, but the 2 centre ones underneath look like they have been there since the dawn of time. Im wondering if these would make the difference and/or would stop me feeling any difference between switching the slider across. I know they need changing anyway, i allways thought they were anti sink but it never stops amazing me on how complicated this car is. Oh one last thing i was in the scrappers the other day getting some bits for the car and i noticed that some one had gone to a bit of effort to get some relays i never knew existed from under the glove box. Think it was 3, i didnt know where there, any ideas what these 3 are? Thanks for previous advise i have now got my abs out of use and the rear light warnings not bothering me , well about 90% of the time cheers -------------------- 1994 2.1TD auto estate.

I've had my sunroof open in the middle of a MAHUSSIVE downpour not only getting me soaked but practically giving me heart failure to boot as I wasn't exactly dawdling around when it happened. The main culprit was water finding it's way into the headlining panel and obviuosly working it's magic to bridge/short circuit the motor/switch. Giveaway for this is a small water feature in the central coin tray!! It all worked again after it was dried out so unless you've got some badly damaged wiring now the clever money would be pointing to a a dead set of winding cables/motor drive if it's been sat unused for ever...
I've heard the one where someone came back to his car and witnessed it opening it's sunroof and unlocking the central locking as it was raining. A great story but likely an old, Xm owner's wife's tale!! Andrew This post has been edited by Andmcit on February 13, 2007 09:26 am |

Hi 94XM
I think that before you can wind the sun roof with the manual lever you have to rotate a pivot rod on the actual motor. This isolates the electrical drive. There is a chance that this lever has been left in the isolation position. Regards XMexc -------------------- An interest in 2.5TD's.

Hi. 94XM.
One very simple sunroof issue I've had is the roof console switch dies, as a result, I suspect, of the wet that finds its way in down the aerial or wherever, in heavy rain. Mike. -------------------- XM 2.5VSX Estate RP 7185

Hi
My former company had some of the very first Xm's as company cars and the very "old wife's tale" of the sunroof and central locking opening in the rain is told (with glee- they didn't like him) of the former sales managers's top of the range XM. It happened. Cheers Tony PS. At the former company they hence all took the piss out of me for owning an XM until they had a ride in it. |

Sunroof appears to have done the *usual* thing and got water into the MECHANICAL sliding parts. Cure is to strip the whole thing out (not so difficult when you set your mind to it) by dropping the roof lining ( held on by Velcro tape) Then strip and grease all mechanical parts. Then return unit to car Make sure you check setting when you strip it ,so as to get correct closing position.
The clever beggars can do a half-job of it in situ but I'm getting too old for those contortions and I like to see what I'm doing and do it properly. Sunroof electrics rarely fail in my experience. If water is getting in, it will rust mechanism before it fouls up electrics. -------------------- Xantia 2 litre HDi Saloon X reg 1999

Suspension in "hard" mode has been dealt with in such length on thiis site that the real answer is to search the relevant files and get all the info in one go.
The centre spheres are what makes it go "soft" if the electrics to it are OK., So replace spheres first if there are doubts about their efficiency. -------------------- Xantia 2 litre HDi Saloon X reg 1999

I would concur with techmanagain. If the centre spheres are flat you will feel little or no difference between the modes as the centre sphere is the one that provides the additional 'cushioning' so if only the outer ones are working it will be permantly in hard 'sport' mode.

Well Thanks again Gents, a wealth of information. I will do the spheres and go through the checklist with the sunroof.
One thing , what were the 3 relays pointing upwards, located under the glovebox?- thats just pure curiousity Thanks again Mark -------------------- 1994 2.1TD auto estate.

Hi there
Can't help you with the things going on under the glove box but with regard to the sunroof, do check the lever thingy to make sure it is in the right position to engage the electic motor and do check the roof switch. Mine failed on my last XM with the roof half open natch. In my humble opinion, all the switches for windows, roofs and mirrors are dodgy and so should be checked before anything else. IIRC there are quite a few relays on the top of the fuse board - so effectively pointing upward under the glove box. If you push it in the right direction the fuse box will pivot down and alow a certain amount of access from below - but I had to take the glove box out to get enough pressure on it to get it to do that
The ones at the very front include the indicator relay (that is what I was removing when I was in there to solve the randomly ticking indicator relay problem). Not sure about the other 2. I can't see why anyone would bother going to scrap yard to dismantle an XM dash to get to them though - are they not standard relays that are fairly cheep to buy new (from somewhere other than citroen)? -------------------- 94M XM 2.5 TD VSX Estate RP 6430 Forest Green

Just looked it up. The ones closest to the seat (from left to right whilst sittign in the seat) are - Lights on warning, Indicators, Rear Wiper Timer. I doubt any of those are citroen (let alone XM) specific.

Thanks for the help,
Have just checked and the relay in the roof by the sunroof is clicking when i hit the switches and no sign of life, i will check if the power makes it to the motor tomorrow, if it does then it may be a strip job although i cant see any evidence of water getting in. I suppose it may be a relay prob but may be im just hopeing now. The little handle was in its position , incidently is it possible to manually crank the sunroof as i cant see how you can, on the bx it has a handle you can throw in but i couldnt see how the disengager handle would help other than may be to disconnect the gear system in the motor.
