Hi Everyone
I hope I'm doing this correctly as this is my first post, so apologies for any mess-ups! My query is on the speedometer on my recently acquired 2 turbo Exclusive, 1994: Her speedometer drops in and out of operation at random intervals and for no particular length of time. Apart from the nuisance factor (no mileage log etc.) its hairy going past cameras without knowing how fast! I'm guessing there is a problem with the transducer, or a connection, but can anyone tell me how to locate the problem please? According to the (Haynes) manual the transducer is hard to get at so I'm hoping that's not it -------------------- '95 XM VSX 2.0 Turbo Auto

Being a '94 it could be a Mk1 or 2. The Mk1 has a mechanical speedo so it would most likely be the cable. If its a Mk2 (chevrons in center of bonnet and curved instrument binnacle) it is electronic. The most likely problem is a poor connection somewhere or it could be the sensor itself, but unfortunatly I dont know where it is as I have never had that problem, I'm sure someone else will though.

Sorry I should have said - she is a series 2.
I'm sure it must electrical because the problem comes and goes. When I've had trouble with cable drives before it's usually terminal -------------------- '95 XM VSX 2.0 Turbo Auto

Hi Puff,
Do you have an mpg meter on the right hand display? If you do, and it works then its not the sender on the gear box. I have that trouble. The mpg meter works but the speedo is intermittent. I tried taking the dash out and resoldering the connections on the speedo and it worked for a while. Now its back to intermittent again. If you give the dash a thump and it comes back on then there's a loose connection in the dash somewhere. If all those tests fail then its probably the sender on the gearbox. cheers noz -------------------- '10 '59' C5 2.0 HDi Exclusive Tourer Metallic Grey

Hi Noz
Thanks for that. Yes there is a computer readout on the right-hand side. I hadn't paid it much attention, as there's one in the VSX which seems to tell fairy stories, but it does report something, so a broken dash connection must be more likely. The problem has been temporarily superseded by a more serious one (see separate post), but I will let you know what it turns out to be. Cheers Puff -------------------- '95 XM VSX 2.0 Turbo Auto
