Xm Equivalent In Canada, No XM's In Canada I s'pose?

Hi,

It strongly looks like the world is going to take me off to Canada sometime in the near future.

Even though it is partly francophone, I guess there are no XM's in Canada. Does anyone know of the nearest equivalent? Or maybe there isn't one, in which case does anyone have a recommendation. I'm not interested in pickups SUV's and all that nonsense (typical XM owner I guess )!

From what I have seen and heard there are only a few personal import XMs in North America. Post DS there were no official Citroen sales in North America at all. Some CXs were taken in on a third party company arrangement.

Apparently Canada has more problems with road salt than you guys in the UK. Get there, buy a local 2nd hand car and drive it into the ground or until it rusts to bits - which ever comes first.

Apparently no Pugs or Rens either so no second or third French choice.

You can buy boring cars like Hondas and Toyotas rather than going for the "appendage compensating" US style "veee hickles".

Were they allowed in the US, even as personal imports??

I've always had stamped plates on the front of my 'hydraulic' Citroens stating they did not meet US standards - I always assumed it was some yank rules about steering/brakes/suspension safety or redundancy?

Hi, on the yahoo groups "XM-L" list there's a guy called prakesh who's in Canada with an imported XM, iirc he's thinking of importing another one.

thanks for the suggestions. I'm rather unattracted to the idea of importing an XM. Maintenance and getting spares would be awful and as a recent immigrant I'll have plenty of other things to think about. I've only ever owned Citroens but I guess I also feel a need to fit within what works locally. I suppose Toyotas and Hondas are known for reliability and at least give the opportunity to see what else is around that may be more interesting..

It's probably more to do with the US history of not trusting automotive innovation! Or revenge for Andre making such a great success of Budd's ideas for monocoque bodies

They also did not allow the self levelling and turning headlights on Ds and SMs, hence the butt ugly fixed lights that they got there. Many NA SMs and Ds have since been converted to proper lights.
