Does anyone know what what the socket is at the back of the radio head unit? I'm trying to buy a bus lead to hook up a DC 022 autochanger but some of the leads have a 10 pin socket on the head unit end and some have an 8 pin socket (mini).

Hi Jamieb
The Phillips radio fitted to most Mk2 XM's have a 10 pin (9 pins used) CD socket. This is oblong with two rows of contacts plus an earth contact on the side of the plug for the connection to the braided screen on the lead. There are 2 versions of this Phillips radio, the down market variant having no pins fitted to this socket and therefore no CD support. The standard XM Mk2 CD lead has a first section about 200mm long with a 13 pin DIN socket (female) at the other end. The main lead to the CD is then the same one used for factory CD fit to Mk 1 XM's. A 13 pin DIN plug (male) is fitted to both ends of this cable. I have seen Phillips, Kenwood and Clarion changers that are all fitted with a 13 pin DIN socket (female) to take this lead. There are a number of other variants of leads to suit other changers that have different sockets. All the leads to suit other changers that I have seen have been made up from two sections and are joined with a multifunctional plug and socket. This presumably allows the manufacturer to easily make up leads to suit various radios and changers. I am afraid I have not come across a list of the wire functions for CD cables. I have somewhere about the place of most of the bits I have mentioned so if all else fails it might be possible to sort a pattern for the lead you need so that at least you know what is wanted. Thanks for all that infom XMexc. I think I've found the right lead on the internet and they give money back if it isn't. Looks like my autochanger has a 10 hole socket if you include a notchy square one at the top.
