Hi all.

Am I alone in getting bored seeing that overpriced XM sat as a classified ad on Ebay, seemingly for ever ? OK, it's an estate, but after that it's petrol, auto and enough miles to make anyone doubtful about autos have serious concerns. Get real, advertiser ----- knock the '1' off the front of the price and let's have it gone!!!

Mike.

Hi Mike

Have a look on the Autotrader site, the same cars have been on there for weeks, there has even been a 2.1 td estate for about £700 and that hasn't sold so the chance they of selling the petrol ones is pretty slim! The XM centre had two or three advertised for several thousand pounds for months, I wonder what became of them?. I went to look at a 70k miler in Skelmersdale last year and it was nice, he eventually sold it for £1,000! Its a shame but it only seems to be us that are buying them.

PS. I did see a saloon in Lyme Regis this evening that appears to be living there!

Hi. Peter.

I think we're at a fascinating point regarding XM supply. It's just close enough to the end of production for there to be one or two real gems out there, but that then raises the question of just what would you pay for a real corker ? My motors wind up working fairly hard for their living. so even if I came across a gem of an estate (which obviously we're going to wind up bidding against each other for, unless it's auto !) I've got to ask myself what a couple of years of serious carrying and a good few miles will make it worth. I think that very low miles 3.0 petrol that's been mentioned on the forum recently is a case in point. You would have to be very committed indeed to fork out over 6K for a car which won't be worth that much again for 20 years, assuming we're still allowed to have cars in 20 years. Do you pay top dollar for a low miles original, or pennies for a hard worked example and put the money into new bits ????

Mike.

Hi All

As you may have noticed I favor the buy em cheap and in quantity so that most of the spares come second hand as well. Drive em for a few months at least to find out how well or otherwise the bits work. That determines whether they stay cars or join the spares pile. There will always be a market for a good low mileage example of the XM. Once it is sold and regularly used though it quickly drops in value to join the herd of sub £500 XM's and failures are culling that herd at a rapid rate.

Regards

XMexc

Hi Mike

What a dilemma we face! I like you, although retired, still knock up about 20k per year, which was the reason I didn't buy the Skelmersdale car, as I had just fitted a new head gasket, whereas the other car had done 70k on his. Being one of the most feared jobs, I decided to stick with mine, which has since covered about 25k virtually problem free. I am still looking for that 50k mile 'T' or even 'W' reg in silver or that nice metallic red..... well I can dream!

Demag - Branscombe is only just down the road from me and I hear there are some BMWs! but from what I saw on the local news last night, tis getting a bit dangerous down there, something of an 'undesirable' element' has moved in, with the locals reporting abuse and theft...so I think I will stay away!

Hi XMexc

Thats what I have always done, I paid £800.00 for this one whith half the electrics not working, a few hours work has rewarded me with a very durable car. I have always had to travel for them, bought this one in Manchester, but sadly you cant do that any more. I would go anywhere in the country for the right car but they dont seem to exist any more.
