I have a pair of heated washers and the small loom that connects them. Any one know if the later (post 97) VSX estates had the rest of the loom available to connect into? There does not appear to be one obvious.
Also what would control the heaters, automatic or part of another circuit?
Cheers all, Robin

AFAIK the heated screen washers were standard on VSX of that date. They are enegised, together with the mirrors, when the rear screen heater is switched on. I imagine the wiring is there already - it's just a case of finding it, presumably in the scuittle area below the windscreen where the wiper motor and brake doseur are situated.

I'll go and have another look Techmanagain. The differences with the estate and the other models of VSX is quite strange, like the leather seats and headlamp washers for a start. Why I wonder did they leave them out - cost is my guess.
Robin.

Hi Robin

I wanted to do the same to my 98R 2.5 estate. Also fit the headlamp washers.
I made a detailed examination and used a 95N 2.5 estate to cross check. I could not find any of the expected wiring insitu in the later car to couple things up to.
I put up a post a little while ago complaining that I felt short changed with the 98 estate as there were a lot of earlier VSX features dropped including climate contol vents through the front doors to the rear seats.
In the end I decided to put off doing anything until I SORN the car for a few months to do the head gasket.

My (late, alas) 95N had washer heaters etc, also headlamp washers. My current 98R has washer heaters etc, but no headlamp washers (thank goodness), nor the tank for their water supply. Such are the oddities of XM specs. I suppose they had run out of that type of bumper, so they fitted the standard type and saved the costs, as the production was by then slowing down and they had to use the standard bumpers they had coming in on their production schedule.

Hi Techmanagain

I think it was a deliberate action to alter the spec of the later VSX estates as they kept the missing features on the later VSX and exclusive cars. If it had been due to stock supply of parts then the wiring etc would be insitu to use. I should perhaps have looked a bit harder before I bought the car but knowing that the VSX was the top of the range for Mk2 XM estates I assume I would not have found a higher spec one anyway.

Hi all

Well they were still making XM's in Exclusive with all the VSX missing bits into 2000, which mine has. Headlight washers, rear climate vents, heated rear seats and best of all the later front heated seats that heat the base and the back of the seat. XM's certainly do seem to be a pick and mix spec sometimes.

Cheers

Tony, is your 2000 model an estate though? I think the saloon was produced with all the bits but not the estate. Cannot understand why though. Robin.

Hi

Yes a saloon. I don't there ever was a 24v exclusive estate sold in the UK with the later 24v engine. Which is strange since they sell v6 c5s and they are begining to be good value second hand buys.

Cheers

Tony
