I've noticed that the back box sits at an angle and whilst I had my car on the ramps, shortly after purchase, I noticed a small hole at the bottom of the front face plate of this recently-replaced item.
I duly sealed this with a bit of exhaust putty, however this stayed in place for about a week! Since then, I've ignored it but have noticed that on short runs, this hole allows water to drain from the lowest point of the silencer, thus preventing internal corrosion. Is this tiny hole designed into the silencer or has it just rusted through rather conveniently on mine? -------------------- '99 'V' XM 2.0 CT VSX Auto Estate RP 8360 Green.

Hi Wirdy.
Don't know specifically about the XM, but I've seen several different boxes with a small drain hole; excellent idea, especially on the rear boxes. Mike. -------------------- XM 2.5VSX Estate RP 7185

Hi Wirdy
I think you are right. I seem to remember reading somewhere an evolution note about the introduction of a drain hole in the rear box to let the sulphuric acid drain out quickly rather than eat its way through. Regards XMexc -------------------- An interest in 2.5TD's.
