Hi All
The Mk2 XM uses a RF remote control as do a number of other more recent cars. I have had a few problems with the remotes for the XM's when parked on the front drive and the service road outside. I put it down to the poor reliability of Citroen XM bits and though no more about it. My youngest daughter on the other hand was annoyed when her VW Beetle remote played up every time she visited. Then she changed the Beetle for an almost new Nissan and got really hacked off when the remote on this would never work outside our house. She complained to me and I just agreed that RF remotes did not seem that reliable. She muttered something about it only being the one place and I said XM remotes will play up anywhere. Satisfied with parental words of wisdom without me knowing she got a friend along with another type of nearly new Nissan and its remote also played up outside our house. So when she arrived yesterday morning she told me we has a RF interference black spot and we should see if we could find the source. She circled her car stopping each pace to face it and try the remote. She found one single position where the remote worked but it only worked there if it was in a direct line between her and the car. We followed this line across the road and could see nothing that could generate RF interference. All there was was the bus stop shelter. Then it dawned, near the top of the bus stop post was the RF transmitter/receiver (80mm grey box) that operates the transponder fitted to each bus to feed information to the local describer system. Cross the road with a sheet of aluminum and block the line of sight and the blackspot is gone. This is of course the driveway that I have been using for checking remotes and trying aftermarket systems for XM's. Regards XMexc -------------------- An interest in 2.5TD's.
