Hi everyone,
my bonnet cable has snapped somewhere along it's length. Would anyone have had the same experience, if so, any advice on how to fix this?
Mine is a 2.5td.

thanks,
COG

Theres a join in a box beside the battery box, Wing side, find out which half has gone, I'm betting more towards the headlight or even the join therefore mentioned
as these get most of the cold damp weather and rots.

If its the inner car half, its sill trim strip down etc etc.. But see which half first.

Which raises the question - if one of the cables snap, just how do you get the bonnet open? It's not like a DS where you can deftly maneuver a "cranked rod" - if if you are lucky can reach in through the steering relay arm holes and grab the bonnet cable on each side.

Hi Craig and All

There is a rod that joins and operates the 2 bonnet catches. You can lay in front of the car reach up behind the bumper and in front of the fans to pull the rod and release the bonnet catches. To put all the other owners mind at rest, doing this sets off the alarm if it is set, anyway there are much quicker ways into an XM if you are not worried about damage.

Hi Cog

If you have to replace the cable where it goes through the rubber seal between the passenger compartment and the engine compartment have a care. The 2.5 hydraulic clutch piping goes through the same seal and includes a hydraulic connection at this point.

dear, UFO & xmexclusive

re: 2.5 cable:

have no fear, I've been without the cable for many-a week. A small rod or piece of wood ( 15--20" long) between the front grill slats - just find the end of the cable - and a slight push and , hay presto, bonnet open and....no alarm. give it a try.

But I do need to fit a cable to keep the car in its original pristine condition. I have a theory which I hope to try soon. As to fit the cable as-is, is a nightmare. keep you posted.

thanks to you both for your suggestions.
your COG
