Just purchased 2.5TD 1996 - all v.g and very pleased with it so far !

Only problem is the radio doesnt work . I am sure this has been asked before , but how do I get the code into it (which I hopefully have) ? As soon as the radio is turned on immediately shows "ERR CODE" . Is the answer just to disconnect the power supply to get rid of the message and try again ? rolleyes.gif

According to the book that came with mine, you have to wait for one minute with the radio switched on. The display should then read "CODE" and you can enter the correct numbers.

Do you have the handbook as to the correct way to enter the code? I tried doing mine without reading it and it didn't work! huh.gif

Hi Martybiff

If you don't find the right code, you will hopefully be able to get it decoded remotely. Last proper XM radio I bought came with no code. Used one of the Ebay radio decoding services and all I had to do was send them the long serial number off the side of the unit and I had the code back inside the hour.

Mike.

Just as a matter of interest, try entering 1111 (the workshop code).

Incidentally, is your radio the model 3030 RDS or the 4040 with CD autochanger?

There is a web forum where you can put in your serial number etc and they will post the code. All free. I presume they can handle an XM unit as they seem to be abel to handle anything else.

Don't pay for a decode on Ebay/local decode people. Have a go on there. Worked for a 306 radio I had. Link is here. As far as I know it is just a bunch of people who have the same decoding applications/algorithms as the 'professionals who charge for it' but do it for free on the internet.

I think the way they usually work is that the more times you put in a wrong code, the longer it has to be left powered up before it will let you enter another code. May be wrong though.

Hi Marty

Rowanmoor is right. The Pillips radio has an automatic delay after the entry of a code error. 1 minute on first error then doubling with each wrong entry until a maximum of 32 minutes after six wrong codes.
The method of code entry can be a bit obscure if the radio manual is missing and the code number just happen to have none above 6. I spent ages with my first one putting in the numbers on the 1 to 6 keypad and failing to get it to work.
To set the code for 7349 you:
"press radio preset key 1" The dispay will show " 0 - - - "
select number using the up/down arrows on the other side of the display
The display will show " 7 - - - "
"press radio preset key 1" The display will show " 7 0 - - "
select number using the up/down arrows
The display will show " 7 3 - - "
"press radio preset key 1" The display will show " 7 3 0 - "
select number using the up/down arrows
The display will show " 7 3 4 - "
"press radio preset key 1" The display will show " 7 3 4 0 "
select number using the up/down arrows
The display wil show " 7 3 4 9 "
The radio should beep on entry of exact code and then work normally.

Sorry if you already know this but well help someone.

Regards

Thanks XMexec , I think thats pretty much how tried to do it . The code given from Cit. was 8707 but it failed and now the display is completely blank . as said I'll disconnect the power over the weekend and see what happens . Assuming I get an option to enter another code I'll give 1111 a go and take it from there

Only other problem for the moment is that I have no handbook with the car (2.5 diesel) . If anyone has a handbook I could borrow , I could photocopy etc and willingly pay postages etc etc ?

The handbook usualy lives in the flap to the fuse box - above passenger footwell, there is a little plastic knob to turn to open it. Have you checked in there? Easy to miss if you don't know about it.

Hi Marty

There is no specific handbook for the 2.5TD. The XM handbook covering all models was republished with each new model year (except for twice in 96). Have copies of all except the last 2 years books. Will sort out from your ORG No. which is the correct one for your car and see what I can do about a copy. I guess I could find a working Phillips radio with code if you are stuck. Email me with contact details if you want to follow up on these items.

Regards

John
