I've been making a list (and checking it twice) this morning, of all the things I know are wrong with my XM, or work that needs done. I was surprised at how quickly it's grown, seems I'm going to be busy over the christmas holidays.
I'd be interested in seeing what everyone elses lists are like Lets see, where to start....

I fixed the ashtray by using the push switch from my kaput series 1. The push thing has a different more robust design that better locks the ashtray.
I'm looking to change my ashtray into an ipod holder! I've got a wireless transmitter that works pretty well. Cheers Steve My passenger mirror doesn't work at all! -------------------- 96P XM 2.0Turbo Exclusive Green

I got a new ashtray button from my local dealer when I got my XM. Fixed the problem and was only a few quid I seem to remember.

Hi Ciaran.
At the risk of being a killjoy, I'd keep a watching brief on Ebay for one with a much shorter list and save yourself a lot of grief. There seem to be a few quite nice ones about at the minute. Your list kind of equates to the scenario of banging the head against the wall, to enjoy the relief when you stop ! Mike. -------------------- XM 2.5VSX Estate RP 7185

I pulled the ashtray button out tonight and fiddled around with it, seems its just stiff and has lost its springiness... may try carefully dismantling it and lubricating.
That said, if a new one is only worth a few quid then maybe that's the answer... I did get it to stay closed eventually, then it sprung open after I got out and closed the drivers door -------------------- '95 XM 2.1TD VSX Hatch: RP 6429. Rare green ;-)

I know what you mean. I have scared myself at just how long the list is written in black and white like that! I must admit I've been looking at some S1s on Ebay ately, even as just spares cars, but they are getting seriously cheap. That said, there are good points about the car. I paid just £250 for it, '95 2.1TD VSX. Aside from the missing door handle surround and that bloody ashtray The engine was put into it a couple of years ago, and has only done 80k. It's nice when it's not acting up. A lot of those things are minor issues, and it would be a shame to turf a good car over them, but I do find myself wondering when the hell I'm going to get the time to look at them all! Timing belt, gear linkage, and oil leak are being sorted on Monday hopefully... maybe if I give up my life for a few weeks I can get the others resolved Looking at it in terms of monetary value, given that it cost 250, it probably wasn't worth it when I put new discs and pads, along with 4 tyres and parking brake cables on it for the MOT.... but I don't like to get the fiscal head on too often when dealing with the XM, since economics dictates that a broken light lens should scrap them by 'normal' standards....
