I seem to be making a lot of posts lately...I sincerely hope that some of the info is useful , this may be of interest to people who have their XM as a second car.
I was pleasantly surprised when performing the annual ring-around for insurance quotes; Best quote for me was a Classic Car policy, fully comp. with agreed value of £1500. There is a limit on mileage of 3000 a year which for my purposes is more than adequate. Cover is based on me being a middle-aged married bloke with off-street parking and access to other vehicles, Car has an approved security device. The broker referred to the company to confirm the XM qualified for this cover so it looks like we all drive classics! Better dig out the pipe and tweeds.... Bearing in mind I live in urban Hertfordshire I was very pleased with the price of 179.00. And it can be paid on direct debit, £35 up front and ten payments of £15-I spend more than that on sweeties a month.... I'll not post company details tonight, but once I have the written confirmation thru' the post I will gladly post the company details, broker, and more info on excesses, conditions, etc. Has anybody had a quote dramatically different? (either much higher or lower) I'd be interested to know. If anyone would prefer not to post publicly about their quotes/premiums just send me a PM. Hi Loopy,
Renewal notice from AA just received, another accident free year so the premium increased by £52 to £282. I telephoned to query it but was told nothing they could do. Churchill quoted £181, £202 with protected no claims, based on 10,000 miles a year, car garaged in Lincolnshire. Not bad for a V6. Guess who I'm now insuring with? Hi Derek,
let me guess.....I'm thinking that you have money to burn and like to keep the man in the yellow van in Rolexes... That's a good price for unlimited mileage.... Regards Loopy -------------------- 1991 2.0 Si Auto.

I ahve been getting quotes off the 'net. My problem is that I don't have any no claims as I have had a company car for the last 7 years and the company has gone tits up! The best so far is £398 and I am 50 years old!

So with full no claims that would be in the low to middle 200s. Oops, our postings crossed.

I'd just like to thoroughly recommend Prudential Insurance.
They have a deal on at the moment through Quidco.co.uk where they give you a refund of £100 on all new car policies.....my premium this year - £104.75 There won't be the refund next year, but who cares, I'll shop around again. /refund was honoured & took 2months to come through(as they said it would). Prudential also charged no 'admin fee' to reissue my ins certificate after a recent number plate swap- another sign of a decent company. Just found out that prudential is underwritten by Churchill. Second best deal at the moment is through the Post Office - you get a £50 refund (postal order) on all policies - just cash it in at the post office- just took this out for my Dad. He got his postal order yesterday. ** Age 38, Full clean licence, low risk area, driveway parking** This post has been edited by wirdy on December 11, 2006 10:53 pm -------------------- '99 'V' XM 2.0 CT VSX Auto Estate RP 8360 Green.

Mine actually went down this year! £273.00. I think it must be because the car has reached the grand old age of 10 years so its probably listed as being worth nothing.
I was almost looking forward to reaching 50 to get cheaper insurance, I'm now approaching 70 so it will probably soon start going up again! Peter.N. -------------------- Used to have:

I can only dream of those kind of renewals.
At last renewal: wrong side of 30 (as far as insurance goes - but not any more so may make a difference this year - I wish), 20,000+ miles per year, on street parking in leafy surrey and 1 accident on the books. I can't remember exactly what my last renewal was, but I think it was over £500 In terms of recommendations - or not in this case - avoid Admiral (especially their smaller 'trading names' like Bell Direct) at all costs. When valuing my XM for a claim they were basing it's value on other cars/models from autotrader! I never did get them much higher than the cheepest 'no service history, needs some work' 2.5 available on Autotrader with about 4 months of arguing and faxing over numerous printouts and a complete service history etc etc. This post has been edited by rowanmoor on November 27, 2006 03:26 pm -------------------- 94M XM 2.5 TD VSX Estate RP 6430 Forest Green

Well I did some online quotes last week(ish), got a 220 from tesco and a 600 from an elephant.......... Went with a 360 as I have put alloy wheels on etc and tesco's small print say no modified vehicles. It would help I think when putting quotes up to include a few simple other markers like car engine spec, trim and your age/employment, as those are big factors, an xm is not just an xm, and a driver is not just a driver. (I'm 40 for comparison BTW) -------------------- |
