Hi wirdy

I think the real answer is.. Series ones (boxey dash boards) DO NOT work in S2 cars, (Xantia style) dash... They are different inside, however they do plug in to the harness each way..

Hope that helps .. Mind you it would be good if S1's fitted S2's as I have about 3 LH displays all good in my stock!!

Citroenxm - thanks.

Anyone got a spare S2 LH dot matrix?

I've taken mine apart and diagnosed broken tracks in the ribbon cable, it's not the more common failure to get sufficient pressure on the edge connections - so well beyond my capabilities to replace the ribbon cable and the display is almost unreadable now. sad.gif

As stated, there seem to be several different versions. I had two almost identical XM estates, both registered Jan 96 with similar registration No's, with different functions!

Hi Wirdy

It should not be impossible to repair ribbon cable breaks. Email me direct and I will see if I can help.

Ah xmexec!!

Got there first. I have in the past sucessfully repaird ribbon cables with a solder iorn on something electronic before.. Cant remember what but I remember tracking the ribbon and getting it to work!

So I totally agree with you

Hi guys,

One thing that I used sucessfully in the past was the silver-based conductive paint that is generally used for repairing heated rear windows. I have used a couple of techniques with it, both sucessful.

On the plastic folded-tab type connector where the copper had worn off I gave the tab a couple of coats and then defined the tracks with a craft knife blade and ruler. Worked perfectly.

The other method was using low-tack masking tape that was bought from a model suppliers, it was Tamiya brand and came in a roll in 4mm width and a wider one. I masked each track and gave it two coats and then just ran a sharp blade along the edge of the tape before removing it. I then left the thing to dry overnight before masking the next track. Because the tape is not excessively sticky it didn't lift the previous repair where the tape was applied to mend the adjacent track.

When the paint became too thick to apply (due to the solvent evaporating) I found that Liquid polystyrene cement thinned it brilliantly.

I hope that the above is relevant to what you are doing, or comes in useful in the future...

Oh well, I'll have a go then.....I can't really make it much worse.
I'll try & find a really small soldering iron tip at work to do it.
