I know the requirements for yellow headlamps in France ceased in the early 90's but was wondering how the yellow was achieved on XMs; there doesn't seem to be any H1 bulbs available in cadmium yellow anywhere on the web, So does anyone know what was used in France on the XMs?
I rather liked the use of yellow headlamps, certainly made driving in fog easier, and if anyone has any ideas where the bulbs are available I'd probably give them a try. Any french members out there?

Thanks

Loopy

Bonjour from Brum !

According to the parts slide, the yellow headlamp was a separate part number altogether, while the bulbs remain the same, so it has to be down to the glass. They list them, LHD only, to RP5897.

Hi Mike,
I wonder if they were something like the yellow globes that are available for using with H4 bulbs; I found this on the net last night

http://www.rallylights.com/hella/H4.asp#balloon

and I am thinking that at that price (even with shipping to the UK ) they're cheap enough to buy a pair to mess about with.

Do you have the part number for the Citroen part? I'll ask the lads at Meashams of Greenford, my local purveyor of, Citroens and parts thereof for a price & availability, making sure I'm seated when I do as I reckon that if still available they will not be cheap, unless they are something used across the range at the time.

I think that the yellow headlamps sorta add to the 'frenchness' of the XM; I suppose that the alternative is the 'All-weather' bulbs that have a yellow tint to the light although I don't know how yellow they are as I'm going by the info on the web. There is also an 'Extreme Yellow' bulb which judging by the pictures I've seen are japanese and most likely illegal for road use on this sceptred isle.

I've also found transparent yellow glass paint that may or may not cause the bulbs to go bang- it's painted on, left to dry for 24 hrs and then baked for a half-hour at 325f.

Of those options the globes are probably the safest if I can find a way of mounting them. Will experiment on the company Mondeo....

Last resort I suppose would be that lacquer that was sold for painting the lenses when driving in france; there's a couple of accessory shops local to me that have been around since nineteen-oatcake that may still have a dusty bottle in stock, if it has not set solid after all these years.

My wife thinks I'm a sad case for even thinking about it, and is threatening to buy me a beret and a pack of Gitanes cigarettes for christmas...even more 'frenchness' Daft mare.

Regards

Loopy

Hi. Loopy.

Numbers I have are -- 95650956 --- RP6204H7 for the LH
95650957--- RP6205H7 for the RH.

Don't forget, they are listed only for LHD. Had a look at the yellow globes --- reckon you will struggle with those on a H1 bulb. Maybe easier to yellow paint the internal glass lens and then leave the main beam clear ? Have fun anyway !

Mike.

Mike, Thanks for the part numbers, I'll se if they are still available, and what form they take. What about painting the plastic deflector - painting the side that faces the bulb it would be almost unnoticeable from the front and achieve the desired effect....I just like a challenge..
