Hi Folks
Just noticed in the Wolsey House Motors advert in the latest Ctiroenian that they are offering 110bhp HDi auto conversions for XMs. So what does everyone think. Good or bad idea? Cheers Tony |

My experience of HDi is with the Peugeot applications and I'd say steer well clear. Short lived (45 - 50k) lift pumps (£120 ish). Iffy lift pump relays. Problems with the high pressure pump (four figure expensive), plus the need to instal the relevant wiring and ECU. No thanks ! The potential benefits of a bit more grunt, a little smoother perhaps and a tad better mpg are wiped out in one go if you run into the problems they suffer.

I would agree with Mike. The common rail engines dont seem to be nearly as robust as the IDIs. My last 2.1 had covered 292k when I sold it and they will do 50 mpg+ if driven reasonably carefully. Injectors for HDIs are expensive and short lived. The ones with the dual mass flywheel also suffer premature clutch failure.
