I have a 1992 (K reg) XM 3.0 V6 SEi with air con and climate control and have heater problems.
Fan only works on full speed but all green lights work.
Whatever setting I select it still blows cold.
Seems like the flaps (or whatever they are) to divert airflow are not working.
Car has no water leaks so I would think it is a fault with the control panel.
All help welcome.

Did try to open the file but could not.

Hi all. Just wanted to share this experience with you all as it may just be the answer to this problem.
Same symptoms - everything says it should work! Checked under bonnet fuse board and all was well so to the motor.
The heater motor is easily removed from below the scuttle on the passenger side, remove carpet/upholstery and three screws only hold in the motor.
My fault was the electrical connections at the motor speed controller pack attached to the motor unit. The positive and negative terminals are ony 6mm spades and they had both burnt and lost tension.
A quick bit of soldering and all was again well. Whole operation including diagnostic about 1 hour. Robin.

Robin, what's your car's spec and year? Just interesting u give the details of spades, curious to see whether they'd have improved this over time (as with other electrical components on XM) next time I open up my fan.

Hi AndyB

I have a 3.0SEi V6 12v Air con etc etc...

Heater temp is simple, the Servo motor has stopped working!!!

As for fan speed, I haven't had this problem on mine, could be a half duff resister speed controller... or as mentioned above by Robin

Servo motors are relativly easy to do, but fiddly.. Its the one located on the glove box side of the heater unit (RHD cars). Easyer to remove glove box, then change your temp settings, and I bet a pint or two the servo motor doesn't move.

You will need to remove an air way duct to get at it, then two screws, and then unplug the connection.

Theres a self help file here on fourm describing how to open the motors up and try a repair/service.

good luck

Regards
citroenxm

George, I am guilty of not giving this info each time when I 'assume' its not relevant - my fault.
My XM is a 97 series 2 VSX. The spades should really be in my opinion screwed terminals bearing in mind the loads they carry.
Cheers all, Robin.
