At last!
Over the last few days I've had a bit of time to look at the central locking on the Xm. I bought a Waeco Mt-350 off ebay after reading an article on the Xm Yahoo site by Laszlo Torok. He had the same problem as me and used a Waeco Rc-100 to mod his central locking. I got in touch with him and he kindly emailed some info to get me started. Basically the Xm central locking receiver shorts the c/l control cable to earth when you press the plip button. It's only an impulse signal and if you hold the cable to earth the car continually locks and unlocks. (Guess how I know that! The Waeco unit has 16 pinouts and the instruction book is a bit basic as it's not really designed for the Xm. However after some jiggery pokery I managed to get the car locking and unlocking from the Waeco plip. It's still not perfect as it takes 2 button presses to open the car and 1 to lock it Also I haven't looked at the deadlocking yet, I just wanted to concentrate on getting the thing to lock and unlock correctly. There is a 2nd button on the plip which can be used to switch the deadlocking so once I've done the 1st bit I'll look at that later. I'm really pleased about this as I had visions of trawling the scrappies to find some decent units. I'll update as and when. -------------------- Dave.

I had another play last night and I've now sussed the wiring out.
It now does everything it says on the tin One press open, one press lock and 2nd button operates the deadlocks. Not bad for 35 quid. One feature I like is auto re-lock if the open button has been pressed but the doors not opened within one minute. It's not a fixture yet but should be within the next couple of days. Then I will be able to spend an interesting couple of days trying to get the glovebox back in! -------------------- Dave.

Well done, the XM's plip&receiver are a sad story -specially the IR one-, I presume yours is a radio one. The re-lock feature sounds really convenient. Well, if after setting up all, u find the time to compile a photo-shoot of what u've done, it will be a treasure for the XM owner!

Yes I was thinking about that today George.
I'm hoping to get an hour or two tomorrow to do the final fix so I'll get the camera out and detail what I've done. -------------------- Dave.

Hi Demag
Would be interested in a copy of the manual as well. Have played a while ago with a similar bit of kit but the manual was in french. Regards XMexc -------------------- An interest in 2.5TD's.

Its all installed and working..........................nearly
As its the first time I've done this it would appear there's still a slight problem! The relock facility is causing a problem simply because of the way I've got it wired up. What I've found is if I open the car on the plip and drive off the relock tries to lock the doors again as I'm driving along! This has the annoying effect of reversing the system. So when I get out of the car and try to lock it on the plip, the deadlocks don't work because the unit has gone out of sequence. The easiest way to overcome this at the moment is to operate the plip with a door open this then reverses the system back to the correct operation where the deadlocks work ok! There are a couple of ways I can overcome this. I can turn the relock off which I don't really want to do because when the unit is working properly I think this will be a useful facility. The other way is to connect an output from the unit to the ignition switch which I think is what I should have done. I think when the ignition is operated it puts the Waeco into a waiting mode so it won't trigger untill the plip is used again. Ah well we live and learn I've taken some piccies and found a copy of the manual so will post them soon. -------------------- Dave.
