Having just replaced my 2.1 TD partly because of a slipping (but very light) clutch, the one I have replaced it with had a very heavy and rather sticky clutch, but at least it didn't feel as though it was about to fail, so I tried what the average non mechanical person would and ran some oil into the top bearing of the operating shaft in the bell housing. The result I can only describe as dramatic, the pedal only needs about one third of the original pressure and engages much more smoothly. I cannot guarantee that it will improve them all but it certainly did mine.

Will try the same on the wifes 1.9td Xant.
On my 2.1td I ve just had a new clutch fitted with the SH G Box, now as light as a feather, before Geoff Capes would have had problems. Not yet got the knack of new clutch and slightly different feeling box. The 2.5 clutch is even lighter more like a gas pedal Cheers Mark -------------------- 1995 2.1 VSX AC Leather dead and now beer cans

Hi
This is just the same thing that happens on the BX`s the bell crank leaver never gets serviced !! If you grease it every time you change the oil you will not have any problems with it spray grease is a very god thing to use !!! It is a common cause of the cable snapping as the bell crank leaver gets stiffer the it causes the cable to snap near to the pedal end Even seen the pedal box break were the cable is mounted going into the car. If the bearing has rusted, it is best to take it off and free it first you may need some heat to free it as they do get stuck solid beleve me !! good luck -------------------- XM 2.1 turbo Diesel
