If its a Mk1 you have they were prone to indicator stalk switch failure. I have not heard of it causing that particular problem, but its a possibility.

Hi xmturbouk

Judging by the registration yours will be a Mk2. There is no difference with the indicator part of the stalks, just that Mk1's do not have the light switch included.
Worn indicator switches usually cause relay chatter from the passenger side of the dash which does not cause the indicators to flash. Never come across this fault causing the hazards to come on. Still if you can get the loan of a spare working switch then it is fairly easy to change and see if the fault goes away.
It might be worth seeing if Noz can find you the wiring diagram or Haynes will have one for a typical Mk1. If the switch is not at fault then the relays, hazard switch and wiring are suspect.

Regards

XMexc

Hi xmexec,

Mark ones DID have light main switch on the idicator. On models fitted with Cruise control. That being V6's..

Not too sure about other models in the range though, but I guess that after 1992 it was left on the indicator stalk. I'll have to check on the 1994 M reg S1 I sold to local customer next time I visit parents to see if his lights or in stalk or colum.

Hi XMTurboUK,

Your problem is almost certainly the hazard warning switch. It is not an uncommon problem. Usually it can be fixed by dismantling and cleaning. Otherwise its a new (or secondhand) switch. Either way it's not an expensive repair.

Cheers
