Hi All
The clutch on this car only operates in the last half an inch of travel as the pedal is about to hit the floor. Came like this from the previous owner who said it went like this suddenly after his Indy had fitted a new cable. Anyone got any thoughts or suggestions? Hi XMexc
I am not familiar with the petrol models but mine has an auto adjuster in the clutch cable itself. If its not fitted correctly the adjuster can be damaged. I made a 'special' tool out of a wire coathanger to release the ajuster when fitting the cable, if you dont release it and try and stretch the cable to reach the lever it will destroy the adjuster. If that has happened with yours, I can only suggest that you try and fit a spacer between the cable outer and the bracket on the gearbox to take the slack out. You can make one by cutting a slit in the side of a nut, just wide enough for the cable to slip in. You will probably have to do a bit of experimentation but it will be easier than fitting a new cable! Peter.N. -------------------- Used to have:

Hi Peter
Thanks for the suggestion, I will have a look and see what is there. I originally got the car for the leather trim as Mk2 estates seldom come like this but now I have a accident damaged 2.5 estate to scrap this one might just be worth repairing. Well, if I remember correctly (it was about 10 years ago) there is a spring on the outer cable which tries to lengthen it, to take up the slack, and an internal ratchet which holds it in position once tensioned. By pulling on the end of the spring nearest the clutch pedal you can release the ratchet, but you cant get to it, or at least on the 2.1 diesel you cant. If you straighten out a wire coat hanger, bend a hook into one end and a handle on the other, you can slide it along the back of the engine and engage it with the spring, so that you can pull on it with one hand, to release the ratchet while you pull the centre cable out to reach the clutch lever. If you think that sounds difficult, wait until you try and fit the end of the cable into the pedal

I don't know if they are similar, but the pug 405 also has a b*****d cable clutch as well
I've used the first one but it turned out to be the clutch that was knackered not the cable! Never tried the second one. -------------------- Dave.
