Hi,

Well, I've got a tow bar assembly off ebay!
It looks as if I may need to remove the rear bumper (do I?) to get at chunks of chassis I need to mount it. Can anyone tell me:

With the rear bumper removed there maybe two square or rectangular section chassis members visible that go either side of the car parallel to the sides. Are these sections open or blind? unsure.gif I think they are probably open, and that's how I get the fixings for the towbar in place, but I don't want to spend half my life attempting to remove the bumper only to find that I haven't got access to this anyway!
Bumper removal: How's it held on..? Is it easy to remove..? It looks to me as if the tow bar when bolted in place may distort the rear bumper slightly. Does it, or does it somehow end up magically behind it, and also missing the spare wheel cage and fixings? wacko.gif

Anyway, if anyone can shed any light on procedure and snags of fitting a tow bar, I'd be much obliged? Many thanks.

cheers
Russ

OK, I think I've worked out how it's done. rolleyes.gif
I have to drill through the floor in the boot.
Can anyone confirm this is how their towbar is mounted?

Hi
I've got a series 1. My towbar didn't need any drilling of the boot or removal of the bumper bar, however...
The bar did require a cut out in the bottom of the bumper bar to clear. I was reluctant to hack the plastic so I modified the towbar by cutting the vertical plate on which an extension rod is fitted to clear the bumper. I then extended this plate so that the extension rod sat lower and cleared the base of the bumper. Only needed an extra 40mm or so.

I live in Australia but have a V6 24 valve 5 speed (rare car for here). The towbar was sourced from Citroen Australia so is a genuine part for the locally delivered XM's

The bar bolted straight into my UK car - no mods required other than the issue of clearing the bottom of the plastic bumper.

If its a genuine Citroen one it should bolt straight on but maybe you have an aftermarket one.
