Has anyone attempted to transport a Rayburn cooker in and XM estate? I think it will just go in but it weighs about 7 1/2 cwt (400kgs). The rear axle max load is 1150kg and I am sure there is nothing like that on it when empty. I have carried quite a quantity of concrete blocks in the past, and three people of my weight in the back + luggage would equal about that. The one we have now I brought home in a Morris Minor van, some years ago, but have just purchased a pressure jet type which I have to collect from Sussex. Any thoughts?

Hi Peter
Line the floor with sheets of chipboard 18mm thick to spread any point loads as the steel floor is easily buckled if loaded in the wrong place. You may need to start up and pump the suspension up before loading as the pump may not be able to lift after the load is in. If this proves a real problem try not to stop or stall on the way home. You can stack 2 tonne of paving slabs in the back of a 2.1TD but the pump will not lift the suspension until you take 1 tonne back out. You can then put another half a tonne back in and the suspension will stay up. When you come back for the other half tonne of slabs you can also get all the bags of sand you need to lay the slabs on. It is important that the load is equally spread and as far forward as possible. Ride is suprisingly good. Regards XMexc -------------------- An interest in 2.5TD's.

Hi Bob and XMexc
Well, firstly it would solve the problem of cold motorway food! On the reversing light switch, as I have never had a problem with one I dont know, but its got to be on the gearbox somewhere. The dipping mirror, Noz had a problem with a while back, so he may be able to help you. XMexc - Thanks for the info, the problem is that it will only just go in heightwise and another 3/4" would prevent it unless I take the plastic trim off the top of the opening, but as the roof height rises I may be able to put the chipboard further in. Getting it in is going to be the main problem, the last one I shifted took three of us to lift one end and I was 35 years younger then! I am hoping to be able to jack it up to get one end in and then move the jack further back and so on. I am investigating the possibility of getting a trailer, but I dont have a towing bracket, well I do but its laying on the garage floor - more work. Peter.N. -------------------- Used to have:

Hi Peter
Take the foam/vynal floor covering out of the back of the boot and put the chipboard in to replace it. They are similar thicknesses. You just need some support to spread the load incase a corner or a foot of the oven puts a point load on the thin corrugated floor where it is unsupported. If you leave the foam in you stand a good chance of ripping it anyway. The plastic trim at the top of the tailgate unclips easily as you mention. The bottom piece of trim comes out with a few screws removed. You do not need it for the tailgate to be secure. You might also need to unbolt the metal loop that the tailgate latches onto to get the maximum vertical height and also be sure that you do not bend it while getting the lump in. Locally, I can hire a 2-ton flat car trailer for £37 +VAT per day. A much more reliable method of transporting the thing, and avoiding possible hernias too.

Thanks XMexc and techmanagain.
I have just phoned a firm in Honiton and they can rent me a luton with a 1/2 ton tail lift for £85.00. I think that might be the way forward, but thanks for all your suggestions. Peter.N. -------------------- Used to have:
