I have just replaced the front n/s abs sensor on my 2.5 td. This has cured the warning light problem and the sequence when starting is fine. However, when I road tested the car I get a vibration on the brake pedal when I first brake. This problem was not there before. I should point out that the car has been standing for a year and I am not sure if the problem is related to that.
Any ideas please

I have looked at this again and it appears that I have slightly damaged a couple of the teeth on the rotor and wondered if this could be the cause. Is it a big job to replace?

Yes but you mean only at the moments when the ABS is actually doing its thing? I have ABS and there is no vibration whatsoever on the pedal under normal braking.
When do you feel the vibration jackyboy? It sounds like your ABS is being activated for a couple of seconds at the beginning of every braking effort?

The vibration is nearly every time I brake, even at 10mph. It feels like it is the abs coming in but the pedal actually vibrates. I wonder if a seized caliper or a sticking brake pad would cause it. The car has been standing for nearly a year.

Hi Jackyboy

If your ABS was regularly missing teeth on the wheel it would be putting up the fault light at least intemittantly. The ABS compares the number of pulses from each side. It does this regularly in normal running not just when the brakes are applied. If the counts do not match in free running then the ABS light will come on until the ignition is switched off. If it happens continuously then the the ABS will switch out. From this I do not think the toothed wheel is your problem.
Was you car stood for a long period with the parking brake on. If so the rust on the front disks will be patchy and might just be the cause of you vibration. If so it should wear out fairly quickly.

Regards
