I have a 2.5td exclusive and I am trying to remove the front n/s ABS sensor.
Firstly the retaining bolt was siezed and snapped so I have drilled it out.
On trying to remove the sensor I find that the outside part, which houses the retaining bolt hole, turns with a little force. When forcing this around it turns the sensor tip but not the aluminium coloured barrel which houses the tip. I can't get to the inside to drift it out and I am worried about causing further damage.
Has anyone had a similar problem and what is the best way to get it out.

Cheers

Jim

Hi Jim

BEST way and easyest, Split the Lower suspension joint, Remove the drive shaft, then with a 15mm DEEP socket, so it will go over the magnetic pickup, TAP it out and hey presto they come out beautifuly.

It seems these sensors need tapping out, rather then pulling out!

Good luck

Hi All

I have found that if you insert a thin blade (narrow wall paper scraper) between the toothed wheel and the sensor then use a chisel between the toothed wheel and the thin blade a few very gentle taps will recover a sensor undamaged.

Successfully removed and replaced.
I used a hacksaw to cut off the sensor side which protudes from the housing and also cut off the other side just leaving the part in the housing. The material is soft and easy to cut and it was then easy to remove the inner part. Took me about 30 minutes. Thanks for all of you're help guys. It's nice to just converse with someone on these issues. However........................I now have another problem which I have posted as a new topic.
