I was told the switch must have gone on buying the XM but when I finally took the door card off there was nothing there! (However the previous owner was repairing the drivers window on his new 3.0 when we came to view!!) Has anyone got a spare!

Hi

Identify the car, model and age.
There are at least 3 different types of XM drivers window winder.

Hi Kevin

The winder fitted will most likely be with anti-pinch ECU.
These have 9 pin connectors but there are two types of 9 pin connector.
Pins are the same layout but the polarisation in the connector case varies.
The different types can be forced together but this breaks the connector locking.
With the connector hanging loose under the ECU it soon drops out.
So best to get the correct type.
Early version used a Citroen plug locked by a thin box shaped metal spring clip.
Many other XM plugs use thin or thick versions of these spring clips.
Later version used a PSA plastic slide plug clip.
In these connector plugs the slide is made of RED coloured plastic.
The large red slide end to one side of the plug will confirm if you have this type.

Your car is probably this later type but is close enough to the change over to make it wise to check before you buy one.

As you have the door panel off the check should be easy.

All these winders have always been in demand and expensive due to regular failures.
Citroen used to charge around £200 for a new one.
They are not easy to find and secondhand ones are quite difficult to test.
Ideal if they come from a working car where you can test insitu.

If you cannot get the correct 9 pin type then it is possible to swap the cases.
That requires a total strip down of the ECU and motor.
