The rear hatch on our newly acquired 3.0 XM (1992) stopped locking. On removing the rear hatch covering I quickly saw the problem - the control rod from the lock to the switch had dropped out of position so that the handle was always 'engaged'. Could not find the little 'keeper' that should go on the short end of the control rod so I improvised. The 'keepers' that are used on Weber Carbs (and I would imagine Solex and maybe others) to hold the external control rods in place works a charm .
So now the trunk can be locked again - now to just find out why the rear lock does not react (like it use to) with the DS (LHD car) central locking. OH well.........And yes I checked the connection at the rear lock mechanism - no signal to the electromagnet. OTOH works just fine with the trunk lock. Steve |

The internals of screw electrical connectors are good for fitting onto the end of rods but pleased to see you have solved the problem

Hi
A common problem with the tailgate wiring on XM's is breaking of wires. Near the hinges there are rubber sleeves to carry the wiring loom from boot lid to car chassis. The flexing can eventually damage some of the wires. The one on the right hand side looking into the boot is the main loom. John -------------------- An interest in 2.5TD's.

Hi,
I had the same problem on my Xm estate the heated rear screen and the tail gate lock was very intermittent, when I checked the right hand rubber boot by the top hinge I found that various cables had broken inside the insulation which I then stripped back and soldered back together then retaped with insulation tape.
