Ken that looks like just the diagram I was after thank you very much. With this I can give this a try (although it's been a while with the soldering iron and the pins on this DIN plug are pretty small).

Series 1 xm clarion units use the 14 pin to 14 pin circular leads.. as said before.. These leads can also be found in series two xantias 1998 Sx and exclusive models to 2000 in Sx and 2000 in exclusive.. They were used and are compatible. The clue is the cd changer unit mounted in the boot of the xantia on the right. However the lead is well plumbed in and the xantia needs a fair strip down to retrieve the lead from the cars. I've seen the leads on ebay though for about 16 quid before now...

Did all the wiring but I still got a blank NO PACK on the display. I checked in another thread and I think the changers are just incompatible, the clue is probably in the different ends of the cables.

My radio is a Clarion PC302 and this VDO CDC 026 thing seems like it was probably intended for a Philips. Headed back to eBay for a Clarion CDC605 which comes with the 14PIN DIN connector so will save me anymore fiddly soldering.

Anyone interested in a replacement CD/Philips CD594 with Code combo?

I just picked up the Clarion CDC605 and it works a charm, and sounds fantastic. Now I'm considering where best to position it.

It seems a little tight under the front seat like I've seen suggested so considering the in boot option. I'm looking for a clean path for the cable but there isn't an obvious one through the centre console and carpet.

I'm wondering does anyone have or seen a factory fitted player in the boot and could share how these things we're cabled up. Also how are the brackets fitted, I'm loathe to drill through the floor of the boot if I can help it.

Hi Paul,

S1 Clarion units were indeed mounted in the boot with a pair of side brackets, and screwed to the floor.

The CD cable is long enough, and it passes the back of the dash to the passenger side, and ALL down the one side of the car either just under the plastic trims, or under the end of the carpets down the one side, lifting all the plastic trims to hide it away..

The V6 SEi 12v auto I have was like this.

Hey thanks for the tip, I'll look at finding a route down the passenger side & trim. I guess for mounting it's just a case of being careful drilling into the boot floor and using some short self tapping screws.

Be VERY careful when drilling into the floor on the N/S of the boot.
The anti-sink sphere is less than 5mm under it. huh.gif

Guess how I know that. blink.gif rolleyes.gif

Still it needed replacing anyway especially after it had a hole drilled in it and I got that sinking feeling. laugh.gif
