When the blower motor fails it is usually caused by the voltage regulator transistors on the motor unit its self. Anyone who has a little electronic experience can replace the transistors at much less than the cost of a replacement motor. You need two PNP type power transistors capable of handling 10 - 15 amps. I have replaced these in the past but cant remember the type No. (its the age) If anybody needs this information I will try and look it up.

Thanks for the info, I'll keep it on file. How accessable is the blower motor? Mine's developed a squeak that I'd like to fix. Sounds like a dry bearing.

Regards,

Jim.

Esay easy job if you have a bendy back!

In the passenger footwell, unscrew the torx screws and drop the plastic shroud incl the fuse box cover.

Lay on you back and look up - you are now looking at the bottom of the blower motor, three screws and it will drop on your head.

Support on head as you undo the elec connections and its all done.

Just for the hell of it, do the blower motor, then get into the drivers footwell and do the matrix.

A week in traction normally sorts it out, as for dropping the blower motor on your head, well a glass of single malt does wonders

Now come on lads, I'm 65 and I think that getting the blower motor out is one of the easiest jobs on an XM!
