You're right, Derek. The instructions say nothing about using an adhesive. I suppose you carefully restore the tracks on the connector and carefully stick it back in position. No adhesive.

I gave up and bought one of the rubber connectors from French ebay. Not cheap at 30 euros for what it is, but a lot cheaper than buying a new display.
All "done and dusted" now except that I've just found the strip of shiny plastic insulator that was supposed to half-cover the two chips, I think it's going to stay out now! Thanks for all your help, Jan. Derek -------------------- 1999 3.0V624v Exclusive Black! (RP8362)

I agree, it is hugely overpriced, but that depends on how you want to look at it!, Its now a working display, and that's rather rare! even better than that its one that will continue to work unlike a working one with the original 'foil'

I haven't seen the item for sale recently. Have you? It is not hugely overpriced because it does what is promised: it restores an expensive part which is otherwise hard to get hold of. I did the job 5 years ago and it still works perfectly.

As has been said before:
Do not risk your money on this particular repair item until you have checked that your display uses this design of LCD foil connection. Many XM displays (particularly earlier ones) use standard elastomer conductive strip blocks. If defective they only need the strips and contact pads cleaning. The French repair strip is a non standard length of elastomer connector hence its cost. If your display is the correct foil type then be aware that you need reasonable electronic skills in cleaning old glue from the contact pads. You also need to be able to recognise and repair any damage to the conductivity of the contact pads particularly on the LCD glass. If you are tempted by the Chinese replacement foils as an alternative repair all the above clean up risks apply plus some more. No instructions come with the foils. The new foils come pre loaded with glue. You need a special soldering iron bit and a variable temperature iron to melt the glue and squeeze it from the contact areas.
